Australia cricket great Ricky Ponting in hospital after heart scare

Ricky Ponting was taken to hospital on Friday after the former Australia captain suffered a heart problem while commentating during day three of Australia’s first Test against West Indies in Perth.

According to the reports, Ponting left Optus Stadium around lunchtime after feeling unwell. The 47-year-old is part of the Seven Network’s commentary team for Australia’s two-Test home series against West Indies.

It’s been reported Ponting suffered a heart scare, but no confirmed details have been made public about his condition.

“Ricky Ponting is unwell and will not be providing commentary for the remainder of today’s coverage,” a spokesperson for broadcaster Channel 7 said in a statement to Australian media.

“I wish Ricky the best,” Test captain Pat Cummins said after play on day three.

“We were just chatting to him this morning out on the field. By all reports it sounds like he’s going OK. Anything like that is super scary, so we wish him the best.”
