Martin Luther King Day is Monday, January 15


Each year on the third Monday in January, Americans recognize and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a national day of service. Americans across the country will honor Dr. King by helping their neighbors and communities through thousands of projects spread across all 50 states.

The 2018 commemoration being held at the Empire State Plaza in Albany on January 15 will highlight milestones in the life of Dr. King, the nonviolent civil rights movement, and the King Center in Atlanta. Dr. King was a vital figure of the modern era—his words sparked the conscience of a generation; his courage and selfless actions brought significant change to the fabric of American life; and his ongoing devotion gave direction to 13 years of civil rights engagement. Dr. King’s charismatic leadership and legacy continues to inspire men and women, young and old, in this nation and around the world.
